About the Starkey House

Local historians write that the house sits on the property of the former Starkey Hotel, a railroad inn built during the late 1800’s to house passengers from the train station once located there. Also, there was a post office, grocery store and fruit packing house. A malthouse and mill were just a walk away. At that time Seneca lake was busy with steamships and the point was a landing spot for picking up and delivering goods.

The house had only a few owners after Mrs. Edith Brewer passed on until Ms. Catherine (Cathy) Moskal purchased the property from Lois and Joseph Kofler in 1999. Cathy lived in the house as a residence with two of her three children, Rebecca and Nicholas. Her daughter Rachael was away from home attending college. They grew and left the nest, and Cathy decided to create 1922 Starkey House Bed & Breakfast Inn in 2011.

The Starkey House was built in 1922 by businessman and postmaster, Charles Raymond Brewer for his wife and children. It is located on the historic, once bustling “Starkey Corners” and named by the current owner, after the township’s original founder, the prominent merchant John Starkey.
