About Us

A note from the Owner and Innkeeper, Cathy Moskal

Welcome friends! This is me with my friend Victor who lives near the Starkey House on Round Lake with my cousins Terry and Bob.

I am so excited to share the wonders of the Finger Lakes with you! Stay at my house. Enjoy the peace and quiet of a good sleep. Take in breathtaking views of lakes, farmland, waterfalls and rainbows. Take in all that I am passionate about by experiencing for yourselves, the perfect and simple beauty of nature as I do every day. I am looking forward to meeting you if you are new here, and always love seeing my guests who visit every year, the guests I now call my friends!

Located in the “Heart of the Finger Lakes Wine Country” with a veranda view of Seneca Lake!

Local historians write that the house sits on the property of the former Starkey Hotel, a railroad inn built during the late 1800’s to house passengers from the train station once located there. Also, there was a post office, grocery store and fruit packing house. A malthouse and mill were just a walk away. At that time Seneca lake was busy with steamships and the point was a landing spot for picking up and delivering goods.

The house had only a few owners after Mrs. Edith Brewer passed up until Ms. Catherine (Cathy) Moskal purchased the property from Lois and Joseph Kofler in 1999. Cathy lived in the house as a residence with two of her three children, Rebecca and Nicholas. Her daughter Rachael was away from home attending college. They grew and left the nest, and Cathy decided to create 1922 Starkey House Bed & Breakfast Inn in 2011.

The Starkey House was built in 1922 by businessman and postmaster, Charles Raymond Brewer for his wife and children. It is located on the historic, once bustling “Starkey Corners” and named by the current owner, after the township’s original founder, the prominent merchant John Starkey.

Although the house is not situated down on the lakefront, there is a lovely view of Seneca Lake from most rooms and from two large, breezy verandas.

Sitting proudly on almost two lush acres with garden views of perennials and evergreens, the property also displays huge catalpa, sycamore and maple trees to provide an inviting, park-like setting. Guests may enjoy delicious breakfasts and evening buffet snacks in the dining room or on the porches with views of the grounds and Seneca Lake.

“I fell in love with the house the minute I saw it, and purchased it in 1999. I have enjoyed living in it as a regular residence and have invited friends and family for many holiday celebrations and birthday parties over the years. I consider myself a “keeper of the house” and I enjoy its kind and welcoming spirit. I hope you will fall in love too!”
