Gina and Blaine from Bay Shore, NY travel extensively and frequent many bed and breakfast establishments. I was delighted to host them this past weekend for an extended stay, at my
 1922 Starkey House located just north of Watkins Glen along the west side of gorgeous Seneca Lake.

“We absolutely loved our stay here. The House is beautiful and it couldn’t be more peaceful. You could hear the quiet punctuated by a birdsong.  Cathy was a very warm hostess. We felt like family on a visit to the country. Our room was comfortable. The breakfasts were made with the freshest of ingredients and each guest was given personal attention . . . we are leaving . . . totally relaxed and refreshed. Thank you Cathy for a wonderful getaway!”

They took daily excursions around three of the Finger Lakes taking in wine trail events and spots of interest. The Seneca Wine trail was enjoyable for them as they drove up and down both east and west sides. They liked the village of Hammondsport located 
at the South end of Keuka Lake. 

Gina and Blaine stayed in the Veranda Suite, the largest room at the Starkey House and enjoyed the private upper veranda. They were one of three fun-loving couples that stayed over the Fourth of July weekend.

When they complimented my breakfasts, I really was flattered since they know and love food from all over the world; not to mention that Gina is a fantastic cook herself! Their kind enthusiasm motivated me to continue to develop more freshly prepared foods using locally produced fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses. Gina and I agreed that there is nothing like fresh herbs plucked from your garden to enhance the flavor of any dish.

The weather was terrific as the beautifully appointed house welcomed a full house for extended Fourth of July stays. Guests this weekend traveled from Maryland, Long Island NY, and Quebec, Canada. 

I had the most fun hosting this lively group. Everyone enjoyed the house, my cooking, and all the Finger Lakes region had to offer.

You Don’t Have to Travel Far to Enjoy Seneca Lake . . . 1922 Starkey House Bed & Breakfast guests love their stay . . .

A Last Minute Reservation builds lasting relationships at 1922 Starkey House Bed & Breakfast Inn.
Christine and Tony were looking to enjoy a getaway 
for the first time in a long time.  
Their stay near Seneca Lake proved to be the perfect solution at the Starkey House.
Christine and Tony brought special memories
 to the Starkey House and to me. 
They really enjoyed everything the house and property had to offer including Mamma Robin and her babies in a nest above the Veranda, the peace and quiet of my country location, 
and the easy access to all they wanted to explore.
Tony was an especially good cook by profession, and brought in a delicious Buffalo Chicken Wrap dish that he prepared himself. 
I was very happy to host Tony and Christine.

Seneca Lake 1922 Starkey House boasts another fun weekend . . .Rave Reviews! Last Minute Reservations still available

This season is kicking off 
with a variety of lovely guests and fun-filled stays!

When you are passionate about what you are creating and doing every, day the way that I am with this beautiful house built in 1922, it means so much when guests rave over what you have offered them. I love being “the Hostess with the Most–ess” as the expression goes.

Everyone that stayed at the House this week had a good time and each in a different way.  I am so thrilled to see that everyone enjoyed every space, outside and inside to the fullest.

 Maureen and Michael from Buffalo, NY, celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. They reserved the Veranda Suite with private 2nd floor veranda views.

 Christine and Tony from Rochester, NY enjoyed their first vacation in a number of years. The first floor room, La Chambre , was the epitome of comfort and a peaceful getaway.

 Brittany, Jeff, Joe, and Elaina, from Binghamton, NY  learned what it is like to stay at a bed and breakfast inn. This is what this group of friends had to say about 1922 Starkey House Bed and Breakfast Inn.

I am catching up on posting the great reviews from guests a few weeks ago. Now that the season has really gotten into full swing, the Inn is super busy. Every guest’s stay brings a different experience. I am enjoying everyone! One of the nicest comments I received was from Stephanie and John Campbell.

“. . . [Cathy] had genuine interest in us as guests. . . good recommendations of where to eat in town/the area, . . . delicious, hearty breakfasts with a ton of food,. . .accommodating with check-in times and breakfast time. . . . . [the room] had a comfortable bed and we enjoyed having the heater in the bathroom since it got a bit chilly.

I really love when guests enjoy all that I have to offer them. And the House, with its natural architectural beauty is my partner.

1922 Starkey House Receives Star Ratings from Guests This Weekend

Spending the weekend in the beautiful Finger Lakes is one of the nicest ways to celebrate your anniversary. My guests this weekend took in Watkins Glen and the Seneca  Lakefront Festival. The cardboard regatta boat competition was a hit!

Catalpa Tree? What is it?

Read this interesting article about a Catalpa Tree in NY City from the NY Times.

Catalpa trees have been loved by many for a long time. Their fragrance fills the air at this time in June as breezes blow off of the lake. I can even smell it inside the house which makes me want to open every window! The house is smiling now, permeated by this giant creature living right in my front yard at 1922 Starkey House Bed & Breakfast Inn.

 If you can see that the house is three stories high and the Catalpa, in the middle with blooms, towers over it.

The leaves can be as large as 14 to 16 inches long and 12 inches wide. 

It has clusters of flowers that smell so sweet. Each resembles an orchid. Imagine seeing a huge tree loaded with these beautiful blooms!  I was so impressed by its beauty that I decided to name a room at 1922 Starkey House the “Catalpa Room.”  Guests will see it outside the windows of their room when staying here.

Unfortunately, like all blooming plants, shrubs, and trees, the breathtaking event must be seen and appreciated inside the time frame of about one week or so, depending on the weather.

I tried my best to have the Catalpa Room represent the beauty of the tree. The room has beautiful lighting and is the only room quietly located in the Northeast corner of the house.

Sisters Unite at the 1922 Starkey House Bed & Breakfast . . . more great feedback!

What a joy it was for me to see Ellen, Margie, and Joanne enjoy staying here and finding some fun things to do in the area. It was Margie’s birthday and Ellen arranged with me to have flowers and a basket of chocolates, honey, etc. as a gift for her when they arrived. They thoroughly made themselves at home which made me so happy. Oh yes, and they recommend a night out at Halsey’s in Geneva for good food and cocktails.

They stayed in the Veranda Suite and Robin’s Nest, adjoining rooms, so that they could spend time close to each other. The two single beds in Robin’s Nest provided extra comfort.

“Delicious food!” Great location-comfortable, CLEAN all through the house. . . We liked that you gave us a tour of your B & B. . .  beautiful, very welcoming, very helpful. . . nice setup (adjoining rooms). .. beautiful bathrooms.”
They also provided some great suggestions for special weekend packages. I really listened and will take all they had to say into consideration.

Thanks ladies! I do hope to see you again. Maybe this fall with the leaf change and harvest or maybe next year.
